Halloween

Originally at http://www.shaunagm.net/blog/2011/11/halloween/

I was a mid-90s geocities page for Halloween. It was a fairly mediocre costume - I had a bunch of ideas for it, some of which worked and many of which didn’t. I don’t usually repeat costumes but I think I want to try to improve on this for next year.

Stuff to work on for next time: midi-player wristband, animated gif flipbook, a visitor counter using 7-segment displays.

Stuff which is already awesome: my 3D-printed head tag earrings.

I stole the idea for the earrings from this etsy artist. Unfortunately those earrings are a bit too small and subtle for a Halloween costume. Fortunately Sprout has a 3D printer (three of them, actually - together they can print in nine dimensions!) so I decided to try and make my own version. These are 3D printed plastic with glow in the dark paint highlighting the letters.

Here are the sketchup files, for anyone with access to a makerbot. I’m hoping to make the lettering solid so it holds paint better, when I do I’ll update this post with the new files.

I’m printing out two more pairs of earrings for two lady friends of mine who also code. If anyone else wants a pair, just let me know, and I can make them for you too! And if you live in the Boston area and want to see them being made or run the printer yourself, I’m happy to show you how to do it.
