Shauna's Blog

Over There

Time for another list of excuses for shamefully neglecting this blog:

I have a new blog I contribute to: the Open Science Collaboration blog. I’ve been doing mostly behind the scenes ‘development’ work, both in the technical sense and in the editorial sense, but I’ve also posted a few articles. It’s an open project, so contact me if you want to get involved.

You can also find me over at the OpenHatch blog, where I’ve been busy writing about the eight (eight!) events we’ve run this fall. That’s also where you can find my Ada Lovelace Day post. Also for OpenHatch: I wrote a guide to preparing your open source project for new contributors at a workshop, sprint or hackathon.

I built a portfolio. Javascript is neat!

With the Hampshire College science librarian, Thea Atwood, I’m making a resource for undergrads (and other low-status scientists) who want to get involved in open science activism and research.

In an effort to practice what I preach, in regards to making open source projects accessible, I did some restructuring and documentation work on my Woodhull and Claflin’s Weekly project. The main issue is still getting high quality scans. I think I need to make another visit to the library.

My friend Alice and I made a cake shaped like a stalk of wheat. Because it’s gluten-free. Isn’t the irony delicious? It’s not my best effort - it was hard to find decoration materials that were gluten-free and vegan:

And for my birthday, my family and I made fruit-people. They were supposed to be relaxing in a chocolate hot tub, but sadly the tub broke apart:
