Readings on activist culture

My friend Sumana Harihareswara recently posted a great collection of links on ‘call-out culture’ to MetaFilter.

Even _more_recently autostraddle posted an essay by Frances Lee: Excommunicate Me from the Church of Social Justice.

Relatedly, I along with many of my friends have been reading Conflict Is Not Abuse by Sarah Schulman.  From the publisher’s blurb:

This important and sure to be controversial book illuminates such contemporary and historical issues of personal, racial, and geo-political difference as tools of escalation towards injustice, exclusion, and punishment, whether the objects of dehumanization are other individuals in our families or communities, people with HIV, African Americans, or Palestinians.

Autostraddle has an extensive interview with Schulman that is worth reading, especially if you don’t think you’ll ever get to the book itself.
