Silence

I’ve put off posting my original fiction to this blog, because most of the stuff that I think is really good - that I’m really proud of - I’m trying to polish and submit for publication. Which leaves the ‘halfway decent’ and the ‘truly terrible’. No one will ever get to hear the truly terrible, except for maybe my cat, but the halfway decent… the halfway decent I’m going to start sharing here.
So, first up. I wrote this story several years ago for a good friend of mine who is herself a writer of ‘fractured fairy tales’. I’d always loathed the Disney version of the Little Mermaid story, so I decided to retell it in a way that highlights how messed up it is. I wrote it in a lighter, quicker style than my usual: even though I wrote it for my then-college-aged friend, it’s intended audience is adolescent.
Anyway, have a link! Of course I’d love feedback, which you can leave in the comments. (Or email to me if you’re feeling shy.)
